Born and raised in Bedford, Virginia, I joined the Army after high school, serving six years as an Infantryman with two deployments to Afghanistan. Following an injury from a suicide bomb attack on September 18th, I was medically retired. I discovered CrossFit in 2018 in Oregon and rejoined the community at Kainos in 2022, where it quickly became a passion, especially for the sense of community it fosters. Since 2016, I’ve worked as a seasonal fishing guide on the Kenai, and I coach CrossFit part-time whenever my schedule allows.
Samantha Millard
CFL1, CF Weightlifting
With a lifelong passion for fitness rooted in a history of competitive sports, I began playing softball, volleyball, basketball, and soccer at a young age. My love for volleyball flourished in high school, leading me to play Division II volleyball at the University of Alaska Anchorage, where I graduated in 2010 with a BA in Psychology. As a young mom, I became certified as a Group Fitness Instructor, Personal Trainer, Zumba Instructor, and Aqua Zumba Instructor. Discovering CrossFit was a turning point, as it perfectly blended strength training, cardio, and competition. I’ve been dedicated to the sport for 10 years, balancing my passion for coaching with being a busy mom of three. Notable achievements include being named Gatorade Rookie of the Year at Nikiski High School (2002), Volleyball Athlete of the Year at Kenai Central High School (2005), University of Alaska Anchorage’s Most Improved Volleyball Player (2006), and CrossFit Alaska State Champion (2016).

From a young age being physically fit was ingrained into my life. I grew up on a farm and also played a myriad of sports, with soccer being my main sport. I joined the military at 20 and spent 24 years leading group fitness and 1-1 sessions with Soldiers. While on Active Duty I also owned and ran a gym in Germany. In retirement I enjoy coaching soccer, coaching at Kainos and summertime fishing.
Callie Skene
CFL1, B.S. Exercise Science, NASM CPT, NASM Virtual Coaching Specialist, CF Gymnastics
I’ve always been passionate about human movement, playing sports like soccer and boxing throughout my life. After studying exercise science in college, I started coaching CrossFit in 2016, working with the Michigan SWAT team and high school athletes. Since moving to Alaska, life’s challenges have helped me grow in both fitness and coaching, bringing more flexibility and creativity to my approach. While Olympic lifting is my passion, my current focus is building strength to keep up with my five kids and our busy homesteading lifestyle, which my husband and I are building together.

At 36 years old, I’m a mother of three boys, a CrossFit Level 1 trainer, and a licensed massage therapist. My journey with CrossFit began as a way to cope with postpartum depression, but it quickly became so much more. The community, the friendships, and the mental and physical strength I gained transformed my life. I found a sense of confidence and empowerment I hadn’t felt before, and I now feel stronger and healthier than ever. Staying in CrossFit has allowed me to push my limits, build lasting connections, and feel my absolute best. Through coaching and my work as a massage therapist, I’m passionate about helping others find their own strength and balance.
